What Does It Mean to Biostimulate Your Skin?
Casey Beaudin, FNP-C breaks down skin biostimulation, hyperdilute Radiesse®, collagen remodeling, and regenerative approaches to firmer, resilient skin.

When we think about healthy skin, we often focus on what we can see at the surface — texture, pigmentation, fine lines, and hydration. But much of what determines how firm, resilient, and youthful our skin looks is happening below the surface.
Beneath the epidermis is the dermis, a deeper layer of skin containing the extracellular matrix: a supportive network made up largely of collagen, elastin, and other structural components. Over time, our production of these proteins slows and their organization changes. The result can be thinner, less resilient skin, laxity, and that “crepey” quality that skincare alone can be limited in addressing.
What Is Biostimulation?
This is where biostimulation comes in.
Rather than simply treating the surface of the skin, biostimulatory treatments are designed to create a controlled response within the deeper tissue that encourages new collagen and elastin production and remodeling of the extracellular matrix.
One treatment we use for this purpose is hyperdilute Radiesse®, an injectable made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. When diluted and placed strategically beneath the skin, the goal isn’t to add noticeable volume. Instead, the product acts as a scaffold and stimulus for the body’s own regenerative processes.
Over the following weeks and months, that remodeling process can gradually improve skin firmness, elasticity, thickness, and overall quality.
Where Biostimulators Work Best
This approach can be particularly useful for areas where skin laxity and thinning become noticeable, such as:
- The neck
- Décolletage (chest)
- Lower face
- Arms
- Other areas of the body
Biostimulation represents a different way of thinking about aesthetic medicine: not simply changing what we see on the surface, but supporting the biology and structure underneath it.
